W. E. Hill & Sons Lutherie Products were pleased to attend the Lutherie Day 2024, an annual one-day conference for violin makers hosted at Newark Town Hall and led by Helen Michetschläger, Tim Southon and Nicole Terry. The conference featured speakers Pierre Flavetta, Keith Edwards, Andrea Frandsen and Markus Lawrenson on a variety of interesting subjects. The full range of lutherie products were available in the trader’s area for the attendees to explore.
W. E. Hill & Sons Lutherie Products also had the pleasure of sponsoring Pierre Flavetta’s session ‘The ground enigma: Illuminating the art and mystery of violin ground preparation’. The session explored the traditional wood treatment techniques employed by Renaissance luthiers in crafting violins and delved into historical methods whilst also touching upon modern wood treatment approaches.
Each of the attendees received a sample of the W. E. Hill & Sons Conservation Wax, made using a unique blend of microcrystalline waxes and citrus oils, which aids the cleaning and restoration process, whilst protecting the instrument.
